EFEK ASUPAN PINDANG PATIN TERHADAP KADAR KOLESTEROL TOTAL DAN LDL DARAH PADA MENCIT JANTAN (Mus musculus L.)

- Background: High blood cholesterol level can cause atherosclerosis which is potentially cause CHD. Normally, cholesterol is produced in the body in the normal level, but the diet that contains high animal fat will increase the level of cholesterol in the blood. Pindang patin is one of the favorite foods in Palembang, in patin contains unsaturated fatty acids, including omega 3 fatty acids that can decrease the cholesterol level in the blood, therefore the purpose of this study is to see the effect of pindang patin intake on total cholesterol and LDL. Methods: The type of this study is laboratory experimental using a pre-post-test randomized design with a control group. The experimental animals are male mice (Mus musculus L.). After the adaptation time, the mice were given the high-fat diet by using egg yolk as much as 20% of body weight. The samples were divided into 5 groups: Negative Control, Positive Control, Dose I (0.26 ml / 20 grams of body weight), Dose II (0.52 ml / 20 grams of body weight) and Dose III (1.04 ml / 20 grams of body weight). Blood samples were examined by using a spectrophotometer. Results: Dose II (0.52 ml / 20 grams of body weight) and Dose III (1.04 ml / 20 grams of body weight) give the effect in decreasing the blood level of cholesterol of male mice (Mus musculus L.), and Dose III (1.04 ml / 20 grams of body weight) give the effect in decreasing the blood level of LDL of male mice (Mus musculus L.) Conclusion: Pindang patin can decrease the blood level of total cholesterol and LDL of male mice (Mus musculus L.), the effect of decreasing the blood level of total cholesterol and LDL is best in Dose III (1.04 ml / 20 grBB).
