  • Background: Based on Indonesian basic data health research (RISKESDAS) in 2013, 25,9% of Indonesian people have dental and oral health problems. One of the causes is low of dental and oral health knowledge. Improvement dental and oral health knowledge it can be done with dental health education. Dental health education should be done during childhood, can be provided through animation video and movement of rhythmic exercises. Aim: To determine the effectiveness health education with the animation video and movement of rhythmic exercises to dental and oral health knowledge on children in Elementary School 2 Palembang. Method: This study was a quasi experimental design and sampling was done by total sampling. The samples were 106 children in grade 5 of elementary school who were divided into two groups. Knowledge of dental and oral health before and after dental education were measured using a questionnaire. Data analysis used in this study was wilcoxon test and mann-whitney test. Results: The average of knowledge before and after dental health education using the animation video increased by 27,044 and movement of rhythmic exercises method increased by 29,875. In the mann-whitney test results showed that there weresignificant differences between the 2 groups (p=0,030). Conclusion: There is a significant difference in dental and oral health knowledge between dental health education with the two groups on children in Elementary School 2 Palembang, movement of rhythmic exercises more effective than animation video.
