  • Isolator is the most important aspect and cannot be separated from highcurrent electrical tools in which it function as the separator of two or more electric conductor with certain voltage. Polymer material is the most common isolator material due to having high dielectric strength and great isolation capacity; with the examples of material are silicone rubber and Resin Epoxy. Silicone rubber and resin epoxy material are isolators that affect operation in certain degree of temperature. This research tested breakdown strength from silicone rubber and resin epoxy polymer isolators done to the temperature change of 60 oC, 70 oC, 80 oC, and 90 oC. Breakdown testing was done by applying AC high voltage which increased slowly using voltage transformator done to Ball electrode, Pin electrode, and Rod electrode until the breakdown occurs. The results showed that in pin electrode, breakdown occurs faster and breakdown strength is weaker compared to ball and rod electrode due to every increase pin electrode of temperature of 60 oC, 70 oC, 80 oC, 90 oC which occurred on 11.74 kV, 10.65 kV, 9.14 kV, and 8.06 kV for the sample silicone rubber sheet, while for the sample resin epoxy sheet the breakdown strength in temperature of 60 oC, 70 oC, 80 oC, 90 oC which are 7.42 kV, 7.25 kV, 6.92 kV, and 6.38 kV. This is because of the electrode shape, in which pin electrode has narrower area, so the electric field formed in smaller size and breakdown occurred prematurely.
