  • The research examined the self concept of the blind people in the Panti Rehabilitasi Penyandang Cacat Netra (PRPCN) Palembang. The used theory was symbolic interaction from George Herbert Mead. Meanwhile, the research method used is descriptive qualitative. The sources of data were obtained from primary data through observation and interview towards research objects while secondary data was obtained through documentation. The determination of informants was conducted by a purposive sampling method with 7 informants key. The results of the research showed that the self concept of blind people with disabilities can be divided into two categories, namely self assessment based themselves and self assessment through relationships and social support activities. The self concept that comes from evaluating oneself includes; (1) the assessment of the blind towards their disabilities which they experienced such as self acceptance and knowledge of their disabilities, (2) the blind people have positive and negative self confidence, (3) the blind people have self ability, (4) the blind people are can grateful for their limitations. Self concept through relationships and social support activities includes; (1) the blind people have a positive self concept towards his relationship with their family, (2) positive self-concept was intended also from support with friends in the same condition, (3) the relationship between the blind and the society was not good at the new location of PRPCN, meanwhile the relationship between the blind and society was positive in the previous PRPCN location.
