  • Background: The prevalence of insomnia in the college students was high. It is caused by a cyrcadian rythm shifting on teenager and aggravated by internet addiction, leading to an accessing internet habit at night time. The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between internet addiction and insomnia in the college students. Methods: This cross-sectional study was involving 98 accountance diploma program students of Economic Faculty in Sriwijaya University, chosen by consecutive sampling technique. Data was collected by observing their answer on Internet Addiction Test (IAT) Young questionnaire to assess internet addiction and Insomnia Severity Index in Indonesia version (ISI-INA) to assess insomnia. Result: There are 62 female respondant and 36 male respondant, attain the age of 17 to 21 years old. Internet addiction prevalence on college students was found in 20,4% meanwhile insomnia was presented in 19,3%. Chi Square test results a highly significant relation between internet addiction and insomnia [odds ratio (OR) = 4,061 (IK 95% = 1,354-12,181), p=0,009) Conclusion: There is a relationship between internet addiction and insomnia in the college students. Those who are addicted to internet will have insomnia 4,061 times than those who aren’t.
