  • Overweight has become a global health problem in the world. The prevalence of overweight among pre-school children in Indonesia at 2013 was 16,7%. The highest number of overweight cases among children aged 3-5 years in Palembang City was at Kalidoni. The impact of overweight might caused various degenerative diseases. This study was aimed to determine the correlation between parenting style and overweight status among pre-school children. This research used cross sectional design. The population of this research was a mother who have pre-school children in the work area of Kalidoni health center and the sample was 143 people. The researchers used Cluster Sampling in choosing the sample. The result of bivariate analysis showed that there was a correlation between parent monitoring of child tv viewing (p value = 0,043) and parents activity patterns (p value = 0,000 ), but there was no correlation between gender (p value = 0,465), mother’s education (p value = 0,467), mother’s employment status (p value = 0,356), peer and siblings interaction (p value = 0,735), and parent encouragement of child activity (p value = 0,363) with the incident of overweight among pre school children. In addition, the most dominant variable found in parent activity patterns with PR value 15,896. Researchers hopes that all related parties can make efforts to prevent overweight in children by increasing child's physical activity and monitoring the children when watching a television
