  • Background: Disorders of Sex Development (DSD) are referred to as disorders which include the chromosomal, gonadal and external reproductive organs abnormalities. It is estimated about 1:1000 individuals per population. Ambiguous genitalia can be caused by several factors, most of them are caused by genetic disorders. However, environmental factors such as the use of hormonal medications and pollutants exposure during pregnancy are also one of the causes. Considering some of the impacts that can be caused by DSD, this study was done to reduce the incidence of DSD by identifying several risk factors, especially for patients in RSUP Dr Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Method: This research was observational descriptive study with cross sectional design. Secondary datas were collected from patients medical records and direct interviews by using telephone to parents of hospitalized and outpatient DSD’s patients of RSUP Dr Mohammad Hoesin Palembang in January 2013 to December 2017 which fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Result: Out of 61 samples which fulfilled the inclusion criteria, the result showed that from sociodemographic charactheristics, most of DSD occurred at the age of late childhood (36,1%), dominated by males (88,5%) and located in Palembang (26,2%). Most of clinical findings were hypospadias (36,1%). This study also showed that most of the subjects with DSD are followed by environmental factors (60,7%). Conclusion: Based on the result of the study, there are various risk factors based on DSD’s patients, it can be conclude that environmental factors plays a vital roles as the risk factor of DSD in RSUP Dr Mohammad Hoesin Palembang.
