HUBUNGAN DERAJAT STROKE DENGAN STATUS KOGNITIF PADA PASIEN STROKE ISKEMIK DI RSUP DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG

- Background: Twenty to eighty percent of stroke patients will experience cognitive impairment and 25-50% will become poststroke dementia. Cognitive impairment is influenced by the severity of stroke degree, which is the higher of stroke degree the worse of its effect on the neurological deficit. The aim of the study was to analyze the relationship of stroke degree and cognitive status on ischemic stroke patients. Method: The type of research was an observational analytic with cross sectional design. The study sample was ischemic stroke patients that were hospitalized and outpatient in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang on the period of October-November 2017. Data was obtained from interview using MMSE and medical record for NIHSS score. Data was processed and analyzed by Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. Results: There were 40 patients consisting of 24 male (60%) and 16 female (40%) and 47,5% patients were 55-64 years. Patients with mild degree were 26 (65%) and 14 moderate degree (35%). Patients with normal cognitive status were 18 (45%), 14 patients were probable cognitive impairments (35%), and 8 patients suffered definite cognitive impairments (20%). The results showed that there was a significant relationship between stroke degree and cognitive status on ischemic stroke patients (p=0.005, OR=9.6). Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between stroke degree and cognitive status of ischemic stroke patients in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang, which patients with moderate stroke were 9 times more likely to experience cognitive impairment than mild stroke.
