- Background: Teeth extraction is the process of teeth removal from its socket on alveolar bones done by dentists using specialized forceps to remove the teeth and is usually given anesthesia application beforehand. This procedure could cause dental anxiety on teeth extraction patients. Lavender aromatherapy could be used to decrease the level of patient anxiety as an alternative therapy which contains linalool and linalyl acetate which could give antidepresant and anxiolitic effects. Objective: To analyze the effectivity of lavender aromatherapy to decrease the level of patient anxiety before the teeth extraction procedure. Methods: An experimental study was performed using pre-test and post-control group design. This study involved 40 dental extraction patients which is divided in 2 groups, treatment group (treated with lavender aromatherapy) and control group (is not treated with lavender aromatherapy). The level of dental anxiety on subjects was measured before and after the application of lavender aromatherapy on treatment and control group, the level of dental anxiety is also measured before and after 20 minutes of waiting time using IDAF-4C. Data is analyzed using Shapiro-Wik test and t-paired test (t-paired/t-dependent). Results: There is a significant decrease of the level of dental anxiety (p<0,05) on treatment group, there is also a not significant decrease of the level of dental anxiety on control group (p>0,05). Conclusion: The application of lavender aromatherapy is significantly effective to decrease the level of patient anxiety before the teeth extraction procedure.
