  • Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia which caused by impairment of insulin secretion, insulin action or both. Pathophysiologically, DM has a role in cognitive function impairment. To assess cognitive function impairment, Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) is performed. This study was aimed to determine the correlation between cognitive function impairment and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Metode: This is an analytical observational study with cross-sectional design. Population in this study were all retired civil servants aged 56 – 65 years old who satisfied inclusion and exclusion criteria. Participants were interviewed using Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) questionnaire and the help of medical record. Data were analyzed using Chi-square. Result: Out of 86 samples, 14 participants (16.3%) had impaired cognitive function in type 2 diabetes mellitus, and 4 participants were non-diabetes mellitus (4.7%). Chi-square analysis showed a correlation between cognitive function and type 2 diabetes mellitus (p value 0.015 < α). Conclusion: In conclusion, type 2 diabetes mellitus had 4 times more risk to develop cognitive function impairment.
