  • Background: Air Traffic Controller (ATC) is an air traffic control from the tower that regulates aircraft from takeoff until landing. ATC is a profession that experience a high mental workload The measurement of mental workload is by subjective measurement. One of the subjective measurement methods is the NASA-TLX method (National Aeronautics and Space Administration Task Load Index). Method: This type of research is descriptive qualitative with purposive determination of the sample consist of six informants. The data is obtained using NASA Task Load Index, in-depth interviews, and observations. Result: The Unit of Approach Control Service (APP) is highest towards Effort Dimension (412.2) due to the task of maintaining minimum separation and the Area Control Center Unit (ACC) is dominant towards Overall Performance Dimension (372.2) due to the large demand for success level. Conclusion: The average mental workload of ATC in the Aerodrome Control Tower Unit (ADC) Unit is 89, Approach Control Service (APP) Unit is 81 and Area Control Center Unit (ACC) is 86. The level of workload of all unit in this study classified as heavy mental workloads so that a regular survey and evaluation of work organization must be held.
