- This research is a descriptive qualitative study that aimes to determine the abilityof students to understand system of three-variable linear equations problem through problem solving instruction. The subjects chosen in this study were 6 students from SMA Srijaya Negara, Palembang. Data was collected through test results and interviews then analyzed descriptively. The results indicated that the most frequent understanding of the problem indicators appeared were identifying the elements that are known and identifying the elements in question. While the least emerging indicator was connecting mathematical concepts of a solution.
