- Gout is a disease caused by a disruption of purine metabolism resulting in an increase in uric acid levels in the blood. One of the plants that can be used to reduce uric acid levels is the basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) leaves. Basil leaves contain flavonoid compounds that have the potential to reduce uric acid levels in the blood. Luteolin flavonoid compounds in basil leaves work as competitive inhibitors of the xanthine oxidase enzyme to inhibit uric acid formation in the kidneys. The aim of this study was to determine the antihiperuricemia effect of ethanol extract of basil leaves on male white wistar rats which induced chicken liver juice and potassium oxonate. 30 wistar rats aged 2-3 months with a weight of 150-250 grams were divided into six groups, namely the normal control group, positive control (allopurinol 1.96 mg / 200 gBB), negative control (Na CMC 0.5%), group I (400 mg / kgBB), group II (800 mg / kgBB), and group III (1600 mg / kgBB). All groups except the normal control group were made to experience hyperuricemia by inducing chicken liver juice orally every day for 7 days at a dose of 3mL / 200gBB and potassium oxonate once a week with dose 250mg / kgBB intra-peritoneally, then the test preparation was provided for 7 days after induction. The results showed that% PKAU in groups I, II, and III amounted to 45.71%, 55.05%, and 70.49%. In group III had the best antihiperuricemia activity because the decrease was almost close to allopurinol 72.63%. The results of the analysis obtained showed a decrease in uric acid levels and there were significant differences compared to the negative group (p <0.05). Based on the relationship of the percentage of decrease in blood uric acid levels to the dose, it was obtained ED50 ethanol extract of basil leaves of 800.05 mg / KgBB.
