  • The blacksmith is an informal business that do not have operational standards in the process of the work separated from the presence risk of work accidents. Production process that uses the machinery, manual work equipments and contact with the various hazards. The information about the dangers on the blacksmith is very minimal. For that, there is an imminent need of the safety risk analysis to identify the potential hazard. This research aims to to do the preliminary hazard analysis on the blacksmith sector in Tanjung Laut village. The method of this research was descriptive research with qualitative approach. Data collection instruments in this study use interview guideliness, hazard checklist and PHA worksheet. The research was conducted in Tanjung Laut Village, Kabupaten Ogan Ilir, Sumatera Selatan. Sources of information in this study amounted to four key informants that business owner and six informants that blacksmith worker. The results show based on the identification of work stages, the hazards are the heat, sparks, sharp objects, iron beater, noise, dust material as well as the dangers of ergonomics. Risk analysis conducted indicates 24 hazards were found,then rank of risks show there were 3 high risks category, 8 serious hazards category, 8 medium risks category and 5 low hazards category. The danger with high risk incudes falling into the musculoskeletal Disorder hazard and noise hazard. The forgers were advised to stretch muscles before and after work. Advisable also to used personal protective equipment (PPE) to reduce the impact of noise when working for all of the forgers. The government is advised to pay attention more to the informal industry. The government also recommended to establish work safety effort post (UKK post) in Tanjung Laut village working area of Tanjung Batu Health Center.
