- Date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L) have the potential to be developed in Indonesia. Floating farming was a method that could be used as a nursery media in swamp land by utilizing water diffusion so there was no need a spraying. This study aimed to determine the effect of immersed of planting media and compost application on soil water content, C, N and the growth of Sakir Date palm nursery in floating farming systems. This research was conducted on May to September 2017 at Floating system in swamp land, at Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. Analysis of Soil Water Content, C and N was carried out at the Laboratory of Chemical, Biology and Soil Fertility, Department of Soil Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This study used Split Plot Design with the main plot in the form of immersed height consisting of watering, 1 cm immersed n and 5 cm immersed. Whereas subplots were in the form of dosage of melastoma compost (0, 50, 100, 150, 200) g plant-1. The results showed that the height of immersed significantly affected the soil moisture content and the diameter of the base of the date stem seedlings, with the best treatment ie 1 cm immersed from the bottom of the media with water content (69.29%) and stem diameter (6.29 cm). Meanwhile, the dosage of compost had no significant effect on the soil moisture content, height of dates seeds, N of soil and plants, C-organic, root and diameter of the base of the dates seedlings stem. Then, the interaction between the height of immersed and the dosage of compost significantly affected the height of the date palm seedlings with the two best treatments, namely the treatment watered with 0 g plant-1 dose (28.73 cm) and 5 cm immersed with a dose of 200 g plant-1 (29.13 cm).
