  • Peat soil has very low bearing capacity so it needs to be improved before being used as a construction site. One method to improve this is by reinforcement using deep soil mixing (DSM). This research uses the DSM method using clay + 3% calcium carbide residue mixture to increase bearing capacity of peat soil. DSM modeling in this research uses variation 3.2 cm in diameter with lengths of 40 cm, 46 cm, and 53 cm respectively, and columns with a length of 53 cm with a diameter of 3.2 cm, 4.2 cm, and 4.8 cm. The results obtained from this research are ultimate bearing capacity (qu) of soil, bearing capacity ratio value (BCR), and the percentage increase in BCR value. The value of ultimate bearing capacity (qu) of peat soil before being given reinforcement is 5.264 kPa and after being reinforced by DSM method, the maximum increase in bearing capacity (qu) occurred in a 53 cm length and 4.8 cm diameter column, the ultimate bearing capacity (qu) achieved is 11.8 kPa, BCR value is 2.242, and the percentage increase in BCR value is 124.2%. The minimum increase in bearing capacity (qu) occurred in a 53 cm length and 3.2 cm diameter column, the ultimate bearing capacity (qu) achieved is 7.6 kPa, value of BCR is 1.444, and percentage increase in BCR value is 44.4 %.
