  • Hospital activities produce a variety of waste such as liquid, solid, and gas. Nowadays, the problem of hospital solid waste management is a serious concern considering the negative impact that can be caused if the management is not done properly. There are suitable steps to process the medical solid waste, for instance; minimization, separation, shelter, transportation, culling, and final disposal. The purpose of this study is to analyze the management of solid medical waste at Prabumulih City General Hospital. This research is descriptive study by qualitative approach. The Method of this research is using depth interview, focus group discussion, and observation. This research used nine people as the source of information. The results show that solid medical waste management at Prabumulih City General Hospital has not fulfilled the requirements of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Number 1204/Menkes/SK/X/2004 but there are some things that have been optimized so it needs to be improved even more. Lack of human resources and the absence of training for solid waste medical practitioners leads to mixing of medical solid waste with non-medical waste. The suggestion of this research are; 1) to conduct special training for officers about minimization stages on waste management, 2) to pay attention to the supply of plastic bags for medical waste, 3) the provision of carts for the transportation of medical waste, 4) use needle shredder machine, 5) to cooperate with sanitary agency for final waste disposal.
