  • Boesenbergia rotunda is one of medicinal plant which has antibacterial effect. It contains active compounds such as flavonoid, tannin, and saponin which can inhibit bacterial growth of Gram positive bacteria. One of them is Enterococcus faecalis. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the potency of Boesenbergia rotunda extract against Enterococcus faecalis. Samples were divided into six groups according to the concentration of the fingerroot rhizome extract which are 50%, 25%, 12,5%, 6,25 %, 3,125% and Chlorhexidine 2% was used as positive control. Antibacterial potency test was done with well diffusion agar method. This study was an quasi experimental with post test only control group design. There were 6 groups consisted of fingerroot rhizome extract concentration of 50%, 25%, 12,5%, 6,25%, 3,125% and Chlorhexidine 2%, with 5 repetitions. All groups were assessed after 24 hours of incubation period in 37°C. Diameter of Inhibition zone was measured with digital sliding caliper and data were analyzed using Kruskall Wallis test followed by Mann Whitney test. The result of this study showed that there were significant differences between all groups and control (p<0,05). The higher concentration shown larger mean inhibitory zone formed. The conclusion of this study was Boesenbergia rotunda rhizome extract has antibacterial effect against Enterococcus faecalis with 50% concentration showed the highest inhibitory zone.
