  • This study was aimed at find out: whether or not (1) there was any significant difference in students’ narrative writing achievement before and after they were taught using Roundtable strategy, and (2) there was any significant difference in narrative writing achievement between students who were taught by using Roundtable Strategy and those who were not. The sample of this study was 36 eight graders of SMP Negeri 7 Palembang as an experimental group and 36 eight graders as a control group which was chosen by using purposive sampling. To collect the data, pretest and posttest were given to the experimental group and control group. The data were analyzed by using paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test in SPSS version 23. The results of paired sample t-test showed that there was a significant difference in students’ narrative writing achievement after being taught by roundtable strategy as the p-value was lower than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05). And the results of independent sample t-test showed that there was a significant in writing achievement between the score in experimental group and the control group as the p-value was lower than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05). In brief, Roundtable strategy is helpful in enhancing students’ writing achievement of narrative text of the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 7 Palembang.
