IMPROVING SPEAKING ACHIEVEMENT OF THE SEVENTH GRADERS OF SMP NEGERI 1 INDRALAYA UTARA USING WHOLESOME SCATTERING GAME

- The objectives of the study were to find out: (1) whether or not there was any significant difference in speaking achievement after the students were taught by using Wholesome Scattering Game. (2) whether or not there was any significant difference in speaking achievement between the students who were taught by using Wholesome Scattering Game and those who were not. The sample of this study was 56 of the seventh graders of SMP Negeri 1 Indralaya Utara chosen by using convenience sampling method. This study was conducted by using pretest- posttest control group design. To collect the data, the experimental group (28 students) and the control group (28 students) were given a pretest and posttest. The data were analyzed by using paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test using SPSS version 22. The results of this study showed that (1) the mean difference in posttest and pretest of experimental group was 20.562 and ρ-value was 0.00 < 0.05. It means that there was a significant difference in students’ speaking achievement of experimental group. (2) the mean difference between posttest of experimental group and control group was 5.614 and p-value was 0.00< 0.05. It means that there was a significant difference in speaking achievement between the students who were taught by using wholesome scattering game and those who were not. Therefore, the result of this study showed that Wholesome Scattering Game can improve the seventh graders’ speaking achievement.
