- Synthesis of magnetite particles (Fe3O4) from natural iron sand and synthetic materials using co-precipitation method had been conducted. The purpose of this research is to determine optimum conditions of NaOH concentration and temperature in the synthesis of Fe3O4 particles and to compare the structure, morphology, and composition of the Fe3O4 particles which were synthesized from natural iron sand and synthetic materials. The synthesis was done using NaOH concentration variation of 1, 2, 3, and 4M and the temperature variation of 60, 70, 80, and 900C. The analysis results of the VSM showed that Fe3O4 particles that were synthesized under 2M NaOH concentration and temperature of 700C had a saturation magnetization of 29.89 emu/g. On the other hand, the synthesis of Fe3O4 particles from synthetic materials with the same conditions has saturation magnetization of 44.13 emu/g. The XRD results indicated the presence of Fe3O4 particles in the products. The SEM analysis showed that Fe3O4 particles synthesized from natural iron sand and synthetiPc materials have similar structure and morphology. The results of the EDS showed the composition of Fe3O4 particles based on natural iron sand had a lot of impurities than Fe3O4 synthesized from synthetic material which had higher purity.
