  • Coal Methane gas is a natural gas family with the dominance of methane gas, generated during the process of cultivation and also trapped in coal. Methane gas has the lowest caloric content compared to other natural gas and has a single chain of atoms that produces less exhaust or smoke, thus more environmentally friendly than other gases. Research conducted at PT. Bukit Asam Tbk. TanjungEnim, South Sumatera aims to calculate coalbed methane gas content using kim formula method based on proximate then calculated gas content and influence depth to the resulting value. The results of density analysis of coal seams A, B, and C obtained values between 1,26 and 1,39, with an average value of 1,32 based on the value of coal density obtained it can be known that the rank of coal in the area of Banko Tengah Block B is Bituminous. the results obtained from the testing of hardness of coal on each layer A, B and C that is get the lowest value of 60 and most of 63. Results obtained from each value of calorie with the lowest value of 5.648 cal / gr and 6.008 cal / gr, with an average value of 5.826 cal / gr. Of the value obtained can be categorized is included into High Volatile Bituminous coal. The volume of gas content obtained respectively on layers A1, A2, B1, B2 and C respectively of 2,97 cm3 / gr, 3,38 cm3 / gr, 3,78 cm3 / g, 3,40 cm3 / gr and 4,14 cm3 / gr. In Place gas values obtained in A1, A2, B1, B2 and C layers are 8x106 m3, 12x106 m3, 11x106 m3, 9x106 m3, and 29x106 m3 respectively. Total Gas In Place in the study area was 71x106 m3. Based on the calculation of Gas In Place value from high to low ie seam C, seam A2, seam B1, seam B2, and seam A1. The relationship depth and Gas Content is directly proportional, ie the more in a layer position the value of Gas Content is increasing.
