  • Research on preparation bentonite-alumina composite with coprecipitation methods to adsorb methyl red dyes has been done. The bentonite-alumina composite was characterized using XRD and SEM-EDS. Adsorption variables include of contact time, weight and concentration. The characterization of bentonite-alumina composite using XRD showed a widening peak (2θ = 66.50) indicating the presence of amorphous alumina. The SEM analysis of bentonit-alumina composite showed that alumina was attached to the surface of bentonite. The EDS showed that the Al content in activated bentonite was 4.59 % and after being composite with alumina it increased to 49.06 %. The value of pHPZC bentonite activation was 2.94 while bentonite-alumina composite 4.97. The optimum conditions for adsorption of methyl red using activated bentonite were obtained at 60 minutes contact time and optimum weight of 0.09 g while bentonite-alumina composite were obtained at 40 minutes contact time and optimum weigth 0.07 g. The adsorption isoterm of activated bentonite on methyl red dyes follow the Freundlich isotherm while bentonite-alumina composite on methyl red dyes follow the Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm. The adsorption capacity of bentonite-alumina composite is greater than activated bentonite and can adsorb methyl red dyes.
