  • Phytoplankton is microscopic animals and aquatic plants and their lives drift along the flow, and can carry out photosynthesis. Changes in water quality can be seen from the abundance and community structure of phytoplankton so that the presence of phytoplankton in a waters can provide information about the condition of a waters. The purpose of this study was to determine the phytoplankton community structure and to determine the condition of water quality in the waters of the East Coast of central Bangka Regency. Research on the relationship of phytoplankton community structures with the quality of waters in the East Coast waters of Central Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Province was held in November 2018. The point of the research station is determined by choosing a location that is considered to represent each part of the water or by the Purposive sampling method. Sampling is done using the passive filtering method, using plankton net with a mesh size of 25 μm. Identification of Phytoplankton was performed by observing under a microscope and using phytoplankton identification book in laboratory. The results showed that the phytoplankton found consisted of Bacillariophyceae, Cyanophyceae and Dinoflagellata. The most common genus found is Chaetoceros, Coscinodisscus and Rhizosolenia. The value of phytoplankton abundance at each station ranges from 65 - 820 cells / l. The diversity index value (H ') ranges from 0.96 - 1.60, uniformity (E) ranges from 0.60 - 0.99 and the dominance index value (D) ranges from 0.25 - 0.51. Physical chemical parameters consisting of temperature, salinity, pH, brightness, DO, current speed and direction are still in optimal conditions for the life of phytoplankton.
