  • Plastic waste in the sea took a long time for decomposed or degraded into small plastic pieces also known as microplastic. The inedible microplastic had a negative impact on the body of marine life. This study aimed to identify and analyze microplastic abundance based on the characteristics (shape, size) of Perna viridis and Meretrix meretrix and analyze the relationship between the length and weight of shells and their relation. Shellfish samples were bought from Muara Angke Market, Jakarta. The analysis process was conducted in November 2018 - January 2019 at the Ecotoxicology Laboratory and Pollution Laboratory of the Oceanographic Research Center - Indonesian Institute of Sciences (P20LIPI), North Jakarta. The results showed that microplastic abundance in P. viridis was between 0-15.5 particles / gr, while microplastic abundance in M. meretrix varied from 0 - 75 particles / gr. Fiber is the type of microplastic that is the most commonly found in both types of shells (98.7%). The size of microplastic in P. viridis is 0.1-0.5 mm (33.98%) and M. meretrix is 0.5-1 mm (43.4%). The influence of microplastic abundance on the morphometrics of both types of shells shows that there was no relationship (t value <t table).
