  • Biodecolorization of congo red dyes and textile industry wastewater using Aeromonas jandaei was successfully done. Percent decolorization of decolorized congo red and wastewater had been calculated based on absorbance value measured by spectrophotometer UV-Vis. Decrease in absorbance value of decolorized congo red at the initial testing decolorization activity shows that A. jandaei is able to decolorize the congo red with decolorization percentage up to 83,01%. Optimization of A. jandaei work in decolorization is done by observing the effect of shaking treatment, time, initial concentration of congo red, pH, and temperature. Observation results shows that the optimum decolorization process of congo red by A. jandaei obtained in shaking conditions, decolorization time for 24 hours, initial concentration of congo red was 80 mg/L, pH 7, and incubation temperature of 37°C with decolorization percentage up to 89,22%. Decrease in absorbance value of decolorized wastewater at optimum condition of A. jandaei work shows that A. jandaei is able to decolorize wastewater with decolorization percentage up to 88,16%. Biodegradation on the decolorization of congo red and wastewater was identified qualitively using thin layer chromatography method and UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Based on the thin layer chromatography and UV spectrum data obtained shows that biodegradation occurs in the decolorization of congo red but doesn’t occurs in the decolorization of wastewater.
