  • A historic waste-rock stockpile at the Detour Lake Mine, covered with a thin layer of local overburden, was studied to determine the potential for microbially-mediated generation of acid rock drainage. The attached Microbiology file contains detailed research data describing: (a) enumerations of acidophilic sulfur- (SOMa) and iron-oxidizing microorganisms (IOMa), using the "most probable number" (MPN) technique (tab "MPN raw data"); (b) relative abundances (as % of total reads) of fungi, using high-throughput amplicon sequencing of 18S rRNA genes (tabs "fungi family" and "fungi genus"); (c) relative abundances (as % of total reads) of bacteria, using high-throughput amplicon sequencing of 16S rRNA genes (tabs "bacteria family", "bacteria genus", and "bacteria genus by type").
