- The title of this research was the use of pre-reading technique to improve students’ reading comprehension. This technique helped the teacher in transferring ideas easier and makes the student understand more about the material. The subject of this research was the second year students of Islamic Junior High School Khairul Ummah Boarding School and the object of this research was the use of pre-reading technique to improve students’ reading comprehension. There were two instruments used in this research. The first instrument was observation and the second one was test. The observation was to identify the implementation of pre-reading technique to improve students’ reading comprehension. About the test used to identify the effect of the using pre-reading technique to improve students’ reading comprehension. Two variables operated in this research were the use of pre-reading technique as X variable and students’ reading comprehension as Y variable. To find out the difference of students’ reading comprehension between experiment and control class, the data were analyzed by using SPSS computer program with formula sample T-test. Based on the data analyzed, the researcher found that there was significant difference of students’ reading comprehension at the second year of Islamic Junior High School Khairul Ummah Boarding School Air Molek, where T showed 24.877 at significant level 5% was 2.06, while in the level of significant 1% was 2.80. It can be read that 2.06 24.877 2.80. It means that null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, while the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The conclusion of this research was that teaching by using pre-reading technique was better than without using pre-reading technique.
