  • This research was conducted to find out the students’ ability in writing, especially in writing report paragraph before and after being taught by using Topics and Sluglines Technique and whether there is a significant effect of using topics and sluglines technique on students’ writing ability at the eleventh grade of Islamic Senior High School of Darel Hikmah Boarding School Pekanbaru. This research was carried out because based on writer’s preliminary study; the writer found that students’ writing ability was low. Hence, writer was interested in trying to solve the students’ problems by implementing topics and sluglines technique. The design of this research was an experimental research. The type of the research was of quasi experimental research. The researcher took two classes as the sample of the research that consisted of 20 students. Cluster random sampling technique was used by the writer to take the sample. The technique of data collection was test. Meanwhile, to analyze the data the writer used Independent Sample T-test formula by using SPSS 16.0 Version. After having calculated the scores, the writer found the result of T was 8.030. Then, to was compared with ttable from df = 38 that shows 8.030 at significance level of 5% it shows 2.02 and at level of 1% it shows 2.72. it can be said that 2.02<8.030>2.72. It means that, tobtained>ttable, Ha is accepted. In other words, there is a significant effect of using topics and sluglines technique on students’ writing ability at the eleventh grade of Islamic Senior High School of Darel Hikmah Boarding School Pekanbaru
