  • The problem of this research is the students got difficulty in identifying simple past tense of narrative paragraph even though they are master in simple past tense. The objective of this research is that to know how the student’s mastery in identifying simple past tense of narrative paragraph, to know how the student’s reading comprehension, to know there is or no significant correlation between mastery in identifying simple past tense of narrative paragraph and students’ reading comprehension. This research was conducted at MTs N Lipatkain of Kampar Kiri District of Kampar Regency. The subject of this research is the second year students of MTs N Lipatkain, and the object is the correlation between mastery in identifying simple past tense of narrative paragraph and reading comprehension. The total number of sample is 30 students. In this research, the writing used purpusive sampling in collecting the data. The writer doing this variable “X” and “Y”.to analyze the data, the writer used SPSS 17.00 and also used manual way. Based on the research finding, the result can be concluded that there is no significant correlation between students’ mastery in identifying simple past tense and reading comprehension at the second year students of MTs N Lipatkain of Kampar kiri district of Kampar regency as shown by the explanation bellow.The score of correlation coefficient -0.23≤ 0.361 in significant level 5% and 0.463 in significant level 1% (see table product moment in appendix). The probability score or sign (2-tailed) is -0.23 ≤ 0.05. it means that Ho is accepted. In conclusion there is no correlation between students’ mastery in identifying simple past tense of narrative paragraph and reading comprehension.
