- There were some problems which were faced by the students at MAN 1 Pekanbaru especially in speaking English and needed the best solution. In preliminary research, the researcher found that the students still had difficulties in speaking English. The students were difficult to communicate their ideas in English. In this case, the teacher was expected to find a good technique in teaching in order to give a good contribution to enhance the students’ ability in speaking English by applying Fluency Workshop Technique. This research aimed to find out whether there was a significant effect of using Fluency Workshop Technique toward students’ speaking ability in performing monolog of the second year at MAN 1 Pekanbaru. The researcher tried to find out the answer of the formulation of the problems by using the quantitative research. It was a quasy-experimental research by using non-equivalent control group design. The design was based on the pre-test and post test, and the use of a control group was employed in this research. To analyze the data, the researcher used Independent t-test Formula at SPSS 16.0. The result of analyzing the data was 6.301. This result was differed with t table in 5% significance level (2.01) and in 1 % significance level (2.68). t0 (tobserved) was higher than ttable. It can be interpreted that H0 (null hypothesis) was rejected and H a (alternative hypothesis) was accepted, 2.01< 6.301> 2.68. From the statements above, the researcher can conclude that there was a significant effect of using Fluency Workshop Technique toward students’ speaking ability in performing monolog of second year at MAN 1 Pekanbaru.
