- Based on the researcher’s preliminary study, it was found that the students could not express their idea in writing report paragraph in their text book at the school. The problem can be seen that some of the students could not write report paragraph by using language features. So, the researcher was interested in carrying out the research about this problem. The research was administered at Budi Dharma School Dumai. The subject of the research was the second grade students at Senior High School Budi Dharma Dumai, and the object of this research was the effect of using Magnet Summaries Strategy toward writing ability. The design of this research was quasiexperimental design. The population of this research was the second grade students. The total number of population was 141 students. The writer used cluster sampling by taking two classes as sample; class X1 IPS 1, consisted of 24 students as a controlclass, and class XI IPS 2, consisted of 24 students as an experimental class, so the number of samples from two classes was 40 students. To analyze the data, the writer adopted Independent sample T-test formula by using SPSS 16.0 version. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that tobserved higer than ttable at significant level of 5% and significant level of 1%. Thus, Null Hypothesis (Ho) is rejected, and Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. So, there is a significant Effect of Using Magnet Summaries Strategy toward Ability in Writing Report Paragraph of the Second Grade Students at Senior High School Budi Dharma Dumai. In conclusion, the use magnet summaries could help students to improve their writing skill.
