The Effect of Using Affinity Strategy and Story Grammar Strategy on Students’ Reading Comprehension at SMPN 3 Tapung

- This research is aimed at finding out whether there is a significant effect of using Affinity Strategy and Story Grammar Strategy on students’ reading comprehension at SMPN 3 Tapung. This research is a Quasi-Experiment Research. The subject of this research is the students of class VIII at SMP 3 Tapung. In this research, the researcher involved 3 classes in which 2 classes are as experiment class and 1 class is as control class. The samples used in this research is 108 students taken from 268 population. In data collection, researchers used tests and observations, and the data were analyzed by using the independent statistical formula of sample t-test and paired sample t-test, and influence size formula. The research found that the value of significant probability (p) is lower than (0.05), where sig (2 tailed) is 0.00. The percentage of significant effect toward students’ reading comprehension is 80.7% by applying Affinity Strategy and 95% from applying Story Grammar Strategy. The result indicated that there is a significant effect of using Affinity Strategy and Story Grammar Strategy toward students’ reading comprehension of narrative text, and the effect is categorized as “medium” effect. The conclusion is Affinity Strategy and Story Grammar Strategy can be applied in Reading Comprehension Learning at SMPN 3 Tapung
