- ABSTRACT Westin Maria Susanti, (2019): Teachers’ Code Switching in Teaching English at State Islamic Senior High School 2 MODEL Pekanbaru. Based on the researcher’s preliminary research, the researcher found the teachers used code switching in teaching English at State Islamic Senior High School 2 MODEL Pekanbaru. In addition, the researcher also found the relevant theories which said, code switching can be used in teaching English properly. So, the researcher investigated the teachers’ classroom the practices with the interview about the use of code switching. Thus, to investigate it, the researcher used descriptive qualitative research which helped the researcher to investigate in what condition teachers used the code switching in teaching English. The objectives of this research were to know the type of code switching found in teaching learning process used by English teachers and to know the functions motivate the English teachers used code switching in teaching English. The participants of this research were two English teachers at State Islamic Senior High School 2 MODEL Pekanbaru. To select the participants, purposive sampling was used. For this research, the researcher did observation on teachers’ utterances in teaching English as the subject of this research, then they were also given some questions in one to one interview to complete the data of observation that the researcher did. Furthermore, the data were analyzed through reviewing and selecting, coding, and interpreting. The data that had been collected through observation and interview were transcribed. Then, the data was categorized into three categories that the researcher had determined before. Finally, the result of analysis showed that both of teachers of State MAN 2 Pekanbaru tended to use intra-sentential switching in teaching English in teaching English for some functions, those were (1) explanation (2) checking for understanding and (3) to clear misunderstanding.
