- REPLACEMENT OF FISH MEAL BY GOLDEN SNAIL MEAL (Pomacea canaliculata L.) IN BASAL RATION ON PERFORMANCE IN BROILER STARTER PERIOD Yulia Despika (11581202347) Under the Guidance of Edi Erwan and Jully Handoko ABSTRACT Golden snail is one of the alternative feed that has high protein, the protein content is almost equal to the protein in fish meal. This aim study was to determine the effect of replacement fish meal with golden snail meal (Pomacea canaliculata L.) in basal ration on the performance of starter period broilers including feed consumption, body weight gain, and feed conversion ratio. This research was conduct from February to March at the UIN Agriculture Research and Development Station (UARDS) Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Science, State Islamic University of Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau. The method used in this study was a completely randomized design using 60 DOC with 4 treatments and 5 replications, each treatment consisted of 3 broilers and kept for 21 days old. The treatment in this study was the replacement of fish meal with Golden Snail Meal (GSM) with level 0, 3, 6 and 9% respectevely. The parameters measured were feed consumption, body weight gain, and feed conversion ratio. The results of this study indicated that the replacement of fish meal with GSM at 6% and 9% significantly (P<0.01) decreased feed consumption and body weight gain. However, FCR significantly (P<0.01) increased when fish meal was replaced by GSM at level 9%. The conclusion of this study was that GSM can be used up replacement fish meal to level of 3% in the basal ration to maintan growth performance of broiler chickens. Keywords: Golden snail meal, fish meal, feed consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion ratio, broiler chickens.
