The Effect of Using Two Stay Two Stray Strategy on the Students’ Speaking and Writing Ability at SMPN 1 Bagan Sinembah

- The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of using Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS ) strategy on the students’ speaking and writing ability at SMP N 1 Bagan Sinembah. The research design was a quasi-experimental study. This study was conducted by using an experimental group and a control group. It involved 63 participants that consisted of an experimental group and a control group of students of SMP N 1 Bagan Sinembah. Ten research questions and eight hypotheses were posed in this study in order to find out the significant effect of using Two Stay Two Stray strategy on the students’ speaking and writing ability at SMP N 1 Bagan Sinembah. A pretest and a posttest were administered in this study and an independent sample t-test and a paired sample t-test were used to analyze the data. The research finding showed that there was a significant effect of using Two Stay Two Stray strategy on the students’ speaking and writing ability at SMP N 1 Bagan Sinembah. TSTS strategy contributed the effect of improvement on students’ speaking ability 87% while students’ writing ability was 91% in the experimental class and on the other hand, in the control class it contributed 36% students’ speaking ability and 80% students’ writing ability. It can be concluded that TSTS strategy can be applied in teaching speaking and writing at SMP N 1 BaganSinembah. Keywords: Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS ) strategy, Speaking Ability and Writing Ability
