  • The purpose of this research was to find outstudents’ reading comprehension by using Save the Last Word for Me and Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD ) strategies. The type of the research wasa quazi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest design. The research involved 76 participants that consisted of an experimental group 1 and an experimental group 2 from students of SMPN 1 Teluk Pinang. Four research questions and four hypotheses were proposed in the research to find out the effect of using Save the Last Word for Me and ListenRead-Discuss (LRD ) strategies on the students’ reading comprehension. Pretest and posttest were administered to collect data and independent samples t-tests and Paired samples t-tests were used to analyze the data. Results indicated that there was a significant effect of the treatments in the experimental group 1 and group 2 on the students’ reading comprehension. Save the Last Word for Me strategy contributed to the improvement effect in the amount of 0.7879. The value was categorized asa large effect size. Then, Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD ) strategy contributed to the improvement effect in the amount of 0.68763. The value was categorized asa large effect size. Finally, it can be concluded that the use of Save the Last Word for Me strategy was better than the use of Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD )strategy on the students’ reading comprehension.
