  • This research was proposed from the problem of speakingability in retelling story of the Second Grade Students at the State Islamic Junior High School Naumbai Kampar Regency. They were not able to speak English fluently. Objective of this research was to find out whether there was or nor significant effect of using cartoon video on speaking ability in retelling story of the Second Grade Students at the State Islamic Junior High School Naumbai Kampar Regency. The design of the research was a quasi-experiment design. While the population of this research was the second grade students of the State Islamic Junior High School Naumbai Kampar Regency in 2016/2017 academic year. The sample was taken by using cluster random sampling. The sample of this research was 8 C as an experimental class and 8B as a control class. The number of sample from two classes was 42 students. To analyze the data, the writer adopted independent sample T-test formula by using SPSS 16 version. After analyzing the data, the writer found the result of t-obtained was 3.936 and the probability value was 0.000, it can be stated that 0.000 <3.936. Thus, the writer concluded that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. It means that there was a significance effect between the students taught and taught without using cartoon video on speaking ability in retelling story of the Second Grade Students at the State Islamic Junior High School Naumbai Kampar Regency.
