  • This research was correlational research, which was aimed to find out the correlation between prior knowledge and listening comprehension. There were two variables used in this research. The first was X variable (prior knowledge) and Y (Listening comprehension). The subject of this research was the second year students at SMAN 5 Pekanbaru whereas the object of this research was the correlation between prior knowledge and listening comprehension. The population of this research was 420 students. To choose the sample, the researcher used simple random sampling technique. In collecting the data, the researcher used tests for prior knowledge and listening comprehension. From the data analysis which had been done by using SPSS 17 version, it can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between prior knowledge and listening comprehension. It could be shown by the explanation: 1) The score of correlation coefficient is 0.650 > 0.3044 in significant level of 5% and 0.3932 in significant level of 1% (see the table of product moment) it meant that Ha was accepted which indicated that there is a significant correlation between students prior knowledge and listening comprehension. 2) The probability of score sig. (2-tailed) is 0.000<0.05. It means that Ha was accepted. In other words, there is a significant correlation between prior knowledge and listening comprehension.
