  • The purpose of this study is to find whether there is a significant influence from the use of Running Dictation strategy on the ability to read and write at SMK Labor Pekanbaru. This type of research is Quasi-Experimental Research. The subject of this research is the students of class X in SMK Labor Pekanbaru. In this research, the researcher involves 2 classes that are 1 class as experiment class and 1 class as control class. The samples used in this research are 59 students taken from 247 populations. In data collection, researchers used tests and observations. In analyzing the data, the researcher uses statistical formula independent sample t-test and paired sample t-test, and uses influence size formula. Finally, researchers found that significant values were 0.000 and 0.000. This is smaller than p-value (0.005). This means that there is a significant influence on the use of the Running Dictation strategy to the ability to read and write in the initial test and in the final test in the experimental class. In addition, the values of eta squares are 0.93 and 0.94. In other words, there is a significant influence on the use of the Running Dictation strategy for reading and writing skills in descriptive text, and the effect is categorized into medium effect. In conclusion, Running Dictation strategy can be applied in reading comprehension and writing skill at SMK Labor Pekanbaru.
