  • Based on the researcher’s preliminary research, it was found that some of the eighth grade students at Islamic Junior High School As-Shofa Pekanbaru had problems in reading comprehension. The problems were seen in their inability to achieve the passing grade. The main focus of this research was to find out whether there was a significant effect of using Adapted Materials Strategy on students’ reading comprehension in narrative text at Islamic Junior High School As-Shofa Pekanbaru. This quasi-experimental research had two variables, Adapted Materials Strategy as an independent variable and students’ reading comprehension as a dependent variable. The subject of this research was the eighth grade students at Islamic Junior High School As-Shofa Pekanbaru. The researcher selected two classes from total six classes by using cluster random sampling technique: experimental and control class. There were 48 students as sample from 150 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used multiple choices test. In analyzing the data, the researcher used independent sample T-test formula calculated by using SPSS and continued by using eta square formula. Based on the analysis of t-test Formula, the sig. value was 0.000. It could be stated that 0.000<0.05. Then, the effect size was 0.31 at very large level, thus Ha1 and Ha2 are accepted. The researcher concluded that there is significant effect of using Adapted Materials Strategy on students’ reading comprehension in narrative text at Islamic Junior High School As-Shofa Pekanbaru.
