  • Based on the writer’s preliminary observation at the eighth grade Students of State Junior High School 20 Pekanbaru, writer found that some problems were faced by the students in learning English especially in reading comprehension. They got difficulty in comprehending the meaning of the text, finding main idea and analyzing the content of the text. Thus, the writer proposed to carry out the research entitled The Effect of Using Predict O Gram Strategy on Students’ Reading Comprehension at Junior High School 20 Pekanbaru. The design of this research was a quasi-experiment research. The purposes of the study were to find out 1). How students’ reading comprehension at junior high school 20 pekanbaru being taught by using Predict O Gram Strategy is, 2). How students’ reading comprehension at junior high school 20 pekanbaru without using Predict O Gram Strategy is, 3). And whether there is a significant difference between taught by using Predict O Gram Strategy and without using Predict O Gram Strategy on students’ reading comprehension a junior high school 20 Pekanbaru. In this research, the writer took two classes; an experimental class (38 students) and a control class (38 students). The total samples were 76 students which were taken from 356 students as population by using cluster random sampling. Students were given pre-test and post test. The writer used test to collect the data and t-test formula to analyze it. As a result, the writer found that there was a significant difference between taught by using Predict O Gram strategy and without using Predict O Gram Strategy on students’ reading comprehension at junior high school 20 Pekanbaru. Where t0shows (4.304), on the level of 5%, it shows 2.00 and on the level of 1%, it shows 2.65. In other words, there was a significant difference taught by using Predict O Gram Strategy on students’ reading comprehension in narrative text.
