  • According to preliminary research, it was found that tenth grade students of State Senior High School 2 Bangkinang Kota got difficulties on their writing narrative text ability such as unable to express their idea, unable to develop the text, got difficulties in identifying the generic structure, did not have interest in writing, and lacked in vocabulary of narrative text so that this research aimed to find out the effect of using Round Table technique toward the students’ writing narrative text ability at tenth grade of State Senior High School 2 Bangkinang Kota. This research was a quasi-experimental research. Therefore this research used two groups; control group and experimental group. The subject of the research was tenth grade students of State Senior High School 2 Bangkinang Kota. The object of this research was Round Table technique and their writing ability on narrative text. Sample of this research used cluster random sampling. There were 64 students as sample from 324 students. To analyze the data, the writer used independent sample t-test by using SPSS 17 version and effect size formula by Julie Pallant. Based on the data analysis, the writer found that the result of effect size formula was 0.78. It was categorized as large effect. It means that there was a significant effect between the students taught by using and without using Round Table technique on their writing narrative text ability at tenth grade of State Senior High School 2 Bangkinang Kota.
