  • This research was aimed at investigating whether or not there is a significant correlation between students’ learning motivation in writing and their ability in writing recount texts at the tenth grade of State Senior High School 1 Kuantan Hilir. It is a correlational research. Subject of this research was the tenth grade students of State Senior High School 1 Kuantan Hilir and the objects were students’ learning motivation in writing and their writing ability. The population of this research was large enough to be taken all as the sample. Hence, the researcher only took 25% of the population as the sample. In order to collect the data, the researcher used questionnaire and written test. In order to analyze the data, the researcher used Spearman’s rho correlation coefficient by using SPSS 16. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that the significant value was 0.000 < 0.05. It means that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. In other words, there is a significant correlation between students’ learning motivation in writing and their ability in writing recount texts.
