THE EFFECT OF USING WORD MAPPING STRATEGY ON STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY AT STATE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL 1 PANGKALAN KURAS

- Based on the writer’s preliminary observation, students’ could not comprehend the meaning of words. This problem was caused by some factors; for example, during the teaching and learning the teacher taught by using memorizing strategy. In fact, the writer found out that some of the students were bored and lazy to look for the meaning vocabulary in the dictionary, it affected the ability of the students to increase their vocabulary mastery. So, the writer was interested in carrying out the research about this problem. The purpose of this research was to obtain the effect of word mapping strategy on students’ vocabulary mastery at state junior high school 1PangkalanKuras. The subject was the eighth grade students of Junior High School 1 Pangkalan Kuras, and the object of this research was the effect of using Word Mapping Strategy on students’ Vocabulary Mastery. The design of this research was Quasi-Experimental Research Non-Equivalent Control Group Design. The Population of this research was all of the eighth grade students. The writer took two classes as sample: class VIII C consisted 30 students as experimental class and class VIII D consisted 30 students as control class. To analyze the data, the writer used independent sample t-test formula by using software SPSS 16.After analyzing the data, the writer found T showed5.378 at the level of significance of 5% is 2.00 and the level significance of 1% was 2.65. It can be seen than 2.02<5.378>2.72. It means that null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, while the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted.
