THE EFFECT OF USING CUBING QUESTIONING STRATEGY ON STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION IN NARRATIVE TEXT AT THE FIRST YEAR OF STATE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL 5 PEKANBARU

- Based on the research in SMAN 5 Pekanbaru, students learning outcomes before treatments in Reading Comprehension of Narrative text class X. MIP A 4 was still averaging below KKM standards. While the KKM score of the school is 78. The purposed of this research was to know the effect of using Cubing Questioning strategy toward Students reading comprehension on Narrative text at the first year students of SMAN 5 Pekanbaru. The type of this research was Pre experimental research. The population of this research included all of the first year students of SMAN 5 Pekanbaru 2016/2017 academic year that consisted of 442 students from seven classes of science and four classes of social. However, there were 164 students as the major population. The researcher only took one class as a sample by using cluster random sampling; X.MIPA 4 consisted of 40 students as an experimental class. To analyze the data, the researcher adopted Paired Sample T-test formula by using SPSS 17 and Eta-Squared. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that there was a significant difference of using cubing questioning strategy on students' reading comprehension in narrative text at the first year students of SMAN 5 Pekanbaru, where the value in sig. (2 tailed) was 0.000. It can be noted that 0.00<0.05 Alternative Hypothesis (H,) is accepted and Null Hypothesis (H0) is rejected.
