THE EFFECT OF USING HERO QUEST STRATEGY ON THE ABILITY IN WRITING NARRATIVE PARAGRAPH OF THE EIGHT GRADE STUDENTS AT STATE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL 1 KUOK KAMPAR REGENCY

- Based on the researcher’s preliminary observation at State Junior High School 1 Kuok Kampar Regency, it was found that some of the eight grade students had some difficulties in writing narrative paragraph. They were not able to reach the minimum standard of writing score. Considering students’ problems in writing narrative paragraph, the researcher was going to conduct a research entitled the effect of using Hero Quest strategy on the Ability in Writing Narrative Paragraph of the Eight Grade Students at State Junior High School 1 Kuok Kampar Regency. The main focus of this research was to investigate whether there was a significant difference between students’ ability in writing narrative paragraph by using and without using hero quest strategy of the eight grade students at State Junior High School 1 Kuok Kampar Regency. The researcher formulated the problems that would be answered by using quantitative research. The type of research was quasi experimental research. There were 20 students in VIII A class (experiment class) and 20 students in VIII E class (control class). In collecting the data, the researcher used essay test. In analyzing the data, the researcher used Independent Sample t-test Formula by using SPSS 20 version. Based on the analysis of the data, the result showed there was a significant difference between students’ ability in writing narrative paragraph by using and without using hero quest strategy of the eight grade students at State Junior High School 1 Kuok Kampar Regency. It was proved that probability was lower than 0.05, probability of this research was 0.000, 0.000<0.05. Finally, the researcher concluded alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. Keywords: Effect, Hero Quest Strategy, Writing Ability
