  • This research was conducted based on the problems faced by the students in learning English, especially in reading descriptive text. Based on the preliminary research, the students had problems to comprehend the descriptive text. There is indication that it is important to carry out the research about these problems. In this case, the writer provided Sketching through the Text Strategy to improve the students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text. Then, this research was aimed to find out the effect of using sketching through the text strategy on students’ reading comprehension. This research was Experimental Research. The design was quasi-experimental research. Thus, this research used experimental and control groups. The subject of the research was tenth grade students at Vocational High School Kansai. The object of this research was effect of sketching through the text on students’ reading comprehension. The samples of the research were taken by using cluster random sampling. The data were collected by using test and analyzed with SPSS version 16. The result of this research was: there is significant difference between using and without using Sketching through the Text Strategy on students’ reading comprehension Vocational High School Kansai Pekanbaru. The result could be seen from the mean of post test score’ students in experimental class, 78.60 is higher than control class, 70.53. Then, it could be concluded, Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. From the research finding, it was concluded that teaching reading by using Sketching through the Text Strategy on students’ reading comprehension Vocational High School Kansai Pekanbaru is better than without using Sketching through the Text Strategy.
