  • This research was survey research with correlational research design. The purpose of this research was to investigate the correlation between students’ risktaking personality and their speaking ability. The population of this research was the tenth grade students of Islamic Senior High School DarelHikmahPekanbaru which consisted of seven classes with the total population was 180 students. The respondents of this research were 78 students taken by using Simple Random Sampling technique. In collecting the data, questionnaires were used to measure students’ risk-taking personality and oral test used to measure their speaking ability. The data were analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (r) and calculated by using SPSS 22.0 program version in order to find out whether there was or no a significant correlation between students’ risk-taking personality and their speaking ability. Based on the data analysis, it was found that the students’ risk-taking personality was categorized high with mean percentage 66.28%, the students’ speaking ability was categorized very high with the mean percentage 73.72%, and there was a correlation between students’ risktaking personality and their speaking ability with the strength of association was large showed by correlation coefficient (r) = 0.614. Therefore, it was concluded that null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. In other words, there was a significant correlation between risk-taking personality and students’ speaking ability at Islamic Senior High School DarelHikmahPekanbaru.
