  • The objective of this research was to find out the students who were taught by using Schema Activation Strategy on reading comprehension in descriptive text than those without taught by using schema activation strategy, and to find out whether there was any significant difference between students’ reading comprehension on descriptive text taught and without being taught by using Schema Activation Strategy. This research was Experimental Research. The design was quasi experimental research. The writer formulated the problems that would be answered by using the quantitative research. The subject of the research was the eighth grade students at State Junior High School 1 Inuman Kuantan Singingi Regency. The object of the research was schema activation strategy and reading comprehension on descriptive text. The writer took two classes, experimental and control. As experimental with 23 students in it, and control class with also 23 students in it. The data were collected by using multiple choice test. The result of this research was; first, (Ho) was rejected and (Ha) is accepted (62.39 > 54.35) or students’ who participate in schema activation strategy class would have better reading comprehension than students who participate in conventional class. Second, 0.00 had smaller than 0.05. (Ho) was rejected, and (Ha) was accepted which showed Ho: 0.00 > 0.05 and Ha: 0.00 < 0.05. In other words, there was a significant difference of using schema activation strategy. From the result it can be concluded that teaching reading by using schema activation strategy gave large effect on reading comprehension of the students at State Junior High School 1 Inuman Kuantan Singingi Regency.
